John,
You can’t retire on an uninhabitable earth.
But corrupt Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is hellbent on using the new Postal Fleet to keep pumping deadly emissions until 2050, ruining any chance we have of stopping the climate crisis.
Here’s what’s happening: Congress approved funding to build a fleet of electric vans for the Postal Service, saving trillions in gasoline and lowering emissions. But DeJoy pulled a bait and switch and is committing to new gas-guzzling vehicles that could stay on the road for 30 years!
We can stop it! Seniors rely on the USPS to deliver medicine, birthday cards to grandkids, and Social Security checks! We can’t accept DeJoy’s corrupt commitment to using our precious USPS to destroy the planet! Write to your members of Congress today!
Here’s what’s even worse: The new USPS fleet was intended to be produced in a union factory in Wisconsin, creating thousands of good-paying jobs with adequate benefits. Instead, DeJoy has switched to a non-union plant in South Carolina, where they can pay poverty wages and workers have no protection. Good jobs are good for Social Security. So DeJoy’s bait-and-switch is a betrayal!
Electric postal vans wouldn’t just be a boon to the union workers who build them or the environment in which they drive. They also save the USPS! By switching to electric vehicles now, the USPS is insulated against future oil price shocks like the one we’re experiencing now. And by establishing each post office as an electric vehicle charging hub, electrification opens up a new line of business for the USPS, helping to maintain its standard of universal service.
There are so many reasons to oppose DeJoy’s Bad Deal and virtually none to support it. Send a message to your members of Congress today and urge them to stop DeJoy’s Bad Deal!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
