Dear John,

This week President Biden announced $800 million in military funding for Ukraine. We join in unequivocally calling for a full and immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and an end to air and sea attacks in Ukraine. We also urge the Biden administration not to flood the region with more weapons. In times of crisis, military funding and intervention may sound like a simple answer. But we have seen time and again that they fail to achieve the desired protection.

Please join us in our call. If you have not yet taken action, please do so today: Tell President Biden and Congress: Invest in diplomacy, refugee protection, and international cooperation, not weapons. [link removed]

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Bonnie Kerness: Celebrating 50 years with AFSC: [link removed] This week, we invite you to learn more about the work of Bonnie Kerness. In her five decades with AFSC, Bonnie has advocated for the end of solitary confinement, improvements in prison conditions, and more.

President Biden still has not restored access to asylum: [link removed] Two years ago, the Trump administration enacted a policy called Title 42, which stopped immigrants from seeking safety in the U.S. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people arriving at the border have been forced back to dangerous conditions. And that number continues to grow. AFSC’s Imani Cruz explains this and other immigration policies long overdue for change.

Standing up to anti-Asian racism: [link removed] It has been one year since the horrific murders of six Asian women in a mass shooting in Atlanta, and anti-Asian violence continues to be on the rise, with incidents across the country. It is as critical as ever that we do all we can to stop it in its tracks, writes AFSC’s Mary Zerkel.

Abolish the death penalty once and for all: [link removed] Earlier this month, the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated a death sentence in the case of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was found guilty for the Boston Marathon bombing. But the death penalty does not deter crime. Please join us in urging Congress to pass the Federal Death Penalty Prohibition Act.

Register for Winona LaDuke’s keynote address (Sun., Apr. 3, 7 P.M. ET / 4 P.M. PT): [link removed] Native American land rights activist, environmentalist, economist, politician, and author Winona LaDuke will deliver the keynote session for AFSC’s annual (virtual) meeting. As the Executive Director of Honor the Earth, she works nationally and internationally on the issues of climate change, renewable energy, and environmental justice with Indigenous communities.

Will you join us?: [link removed] We’re looking for 600 people to donate to AFSC by March 31. Your generous gift helps protect immigrant rights, promote economic justice, and build peace worldwide.

Be well and take care
