Amazing moments you made happen in 2019

These amazing moments are because of you.

Dear John,

The Amari family barely escaped with their lives from war-torn Syria.

Amnesty researchers met them last year. The family was stuck in Lebanon — afraid
and uncertain for their future — after they were denied entry to the U.S.
because of President Trump’s first Muslim ban. Now, thanks to supporters like
you who demanded their resettlement, they are making a new home in Virginia.

This is just one amazing moment from 2019 that you made happen.

We are so grateful for your commitment and your passion for human rights. You
are the backbone of everything we do — and every win we achieve.

Here are some other amazing moments you made possible in the past few months:

* Former child soldier Aung Ko Htwe was released from prison. He had been
harshly sentenced for speaking in a media interview about being recruited by
the Myanmar military.
* In Ukraine, renowned film director Oleg Sentsov, who was serving 20 years in
jail, was released. He said, “I received many letters from Amnesty
International. It is just so important to receive letters while in prison.
It’s the most important thing. Even when you haven’t eaten for a whole day,
you still wait and hope for letters.”
* Alejandra Barrera, a transgender Salvadoran activist, had been held in
detention by U.S. immigration officials since 2017. She was released this
year after Amnesty activists called for a fair and full hearing of her asylum
claim.

John, we live in complex times. But good news — like
these moments — begins with your actions and your beliefs.

Thank you for standing with us for human rights!
