Just Get Rid Of That Ill-Fitting Dress Already

Daylight Savings Time, itchy eyes from the sudden deluge of pollen, your child suddenly talking about making a “leprechaun trap” – spring is here! If you’re anything like me, that means you’re eying your overstuffed closet and thinking about a clean-out. (Key word: thinking.) A suggestion: Get rid of whatever you’ve got in there that doesn’t fit, no matter how “perfect” it seems on the hanger.

On Scary Mommy today, Natasha McKee writes about the white dress she wore at her high school graduation, which sat in her closet for years, making her feel bad about how her body had changed. She writes: “I tried to change my body to fit the outfit, setting aside my ongoing quest for body acceptance. Guess what? This strategy has never worked, not even once.” She finally let it go, in what she now realizes was an important step toward a better relationship with her body: “The relief didn't just come from physically tossing it into a box for donation — it's come every single day that I open my closet and don't see it there.” Finally, a persuasive case for actually tackling the mess in there, instead of just thinking about it.

Why Are We Still So Surprised That Dads Are Parents, Too?

It always seems to hold true: No matter how many times you tell school, or daycare, or the doctor to call dad first, mom’s phone still rings. An anesthesiologist shared in a recent Twitter convo: “ My partner is the primary contact for everything. ‘Hey, I’m in the operating room, please call their dad.’” Here’s an even more ridiculous one: “The dentist office called me with an update on a long appointment even though my husband had accompanied her to the appointment, checked her in at the front desk, and was literally IN THEIR OFFICE waiting for the appointment to end.” Why? And more importantly, Marie Holmes asks in a new piece on Scary Mommy, what’s it going to take to make it stop?
