Campaign Updates

TAKE ACTION: Demand that the MA Legislature Make Our Public Transit Systems Equitable and Accessible
Working families in Massachusetts rely on public transit. We must ensure that our infrastructure is accessible, equitable, and efficient in order to best serve our communities. Though the appointment of an environmental justice rider and worker to the new MBTA board is a step in the right direction, there is still work to be done. Join the Public Transit Public Good Coalition as we call for a reduced fare program and new progressive revenue measures. These initiatives would help relieve the current burden on low-income riders and create more equitable sources of revenue.

Advocating for the Work and Family Mobility Act
Toward the end of last month, Massachusetts’ House of Representatives passed, An Act Relative to Work and Family Mobility. Though this victory brings us closer to increasing mobility for Massachusetts residents, regardless of their immigration status, the proposal is now in the Senate’s hands.

Driving Families Forward is asking for allies to send thank you letters to state representatives who voted to pass the act in addition to letters asking for support from state senators. We encourage you to take action and advocate for all who are eligible to be able to hold a license.

Support Fund for Striking Machinists
On March 7, elected officials, labor leaders, and allies joined striking workers at Cummins, Inc. to support IAMAW Local Lodge 447 in their fight for a fair contract. Steve Tolman, Massachusetts AFL-CIO president, and Darlene Lombos, Greater Boston Labor Council Executive Secretary-Treasurer, were among those in attendance. We’d like to also recognize Mike Vartabedian, IAM District 15 Assistant Directing Business Representative, for his unwavering leadership to take a stand and organize for the rights of machinist workers.

The rally is part of a larger Machinists strike currently happening at Cummins locations in Massachusetts and across the region. We stand in solidarity with the union as they fight for just wages and the fair contract they deserve.

Please consider making a donation to the IAM Strike Fund through their website ([link removed]) today.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley Endorses Massachusetts Is Not For Sale
This past Saturday, Massachusetts is not for sale held a press conference to announce Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley’s endorsement of their campaign. Opposition to Big Tech’s anti-worker, anti-consumer, anti-taxpayer ballot proposal is growing, and we are proud to be a part of this important fight. In addition to Congresswoman Pressley, Senator Lydia Edwards, Karen Maxwell of Carmen’s Union ATU Local 589, Beth Griffith of Boston Independent Drivers Guild, and Mimi Ramos of NEU4J delivered remarks.
