NVFS Welcomed HHS Leaders to Head Start Center

NVFS team members and students welcomed two Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) leaders, Dr. Bernadine Futrell, director of the Office of Head Start, and Debra Johnson, deputy assistant secretary for external affairs at the HHS’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF), to the NVFS Head Start Center in Arlington last week. 

A group of students welcomed Dr. Futrell and Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) Johnson to their classroom where they presented handmade signs and gifts. Dr. Futrell and DAS Johnson read books to our young learners during the visit. 

The HHS leaders took a tour of the center with NVFS early education team members followed by a discussion with NVFS teachers and colleagues on the challenges of teaching during the pandemic. The HHS leaders applauded the teachers’ passion for education, the resilience of the students and learned more about how NVFS meets the social, emotional and educational needs of our students. Each year, NVFS helps more than 200 children develop social and cognitive skills to prepare them for kindergarten. Ninety percent of NVFS Head Start students demonstrate kindergarten readiness. Last Chance to Register for the Strides for Stronger Families: Virtual Fitness Challenge

It’s not too late to register for the second annual Strides for Stronger Families to support the NVFS SERVE Campus.

The challenge runs from March 23rd - April 1st. During this 10-day virtual event, you'll log the minutes of your fitness activities. The best part? This year there's no maximum team size! That means you can invite your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors near and far to participate and fundraise for our community!

Registration has been extended until March 25. Get your team together, tie on those sneakers, inflate those bike tires, find the swim goggles, or roll out that yoga mat and join us in making strides to build a stronger Greater Prince William community, together.

Essity, a global hygiene and health company, donated 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to NVFS. NVFS team members use personal protective equipment (PPE) daily to reduce illness and keep the people we serve safe and healthy.
