Hi John,

I’m thrilled to share two upcoming opportunities to learn and engage with NPH.

We’re diving into the Housing Elements process with our first Brown Bag training of 2022! The local Housing Elements process is critical in helping ensure that everyone in our communities has their housing needs met.

And we’re hosting a fun and informal call for our resident services staff in the region, to connect, share, and vent about challenges!

More on these below. See you soon!

Housing Elements: Experiences & Lessons Learned from Around the State

It rests on the responsible planning of local jurisdictions to meet one of Californian’s most basic needs – housing. This process, known as the local Housing Elements process, provides an important opportunity to build local policy around new affordable housing construction and tenant protections.

Join us Thursday, April 7 at 12:00-2:00PM PT for a Brown Bag training to hear from advocacy organizations that are presently advocating through the Housing Elements process and learn what has worked, what to look out for, and changes we might want to advocate for in the future.

This Housing Element panel is intended to be an informal conversation between the panelists and the audience. This will give the audience a chance to ask the panelists questions about their experiences advocating for their communities’ needs through the housing element process, so they can learn lessons from jurisdictions that are further along in the process and to spark conversations/inspire coordination with fellow advocates in their own jurisdictions.

Since this Brown Bag is designed for more interactive and engaging conversation between the speakers and attendees, this meeting will be capped at 50 participants.

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, April 5 at 5:00pm PT
If you have any questions, please email Morgan at [email protected]

Speakers Include:

  • Moderator: Evelyn Stivers, Executive Director, Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County
  • Cesar Covarrubias, Executive Director, The Kennedy Commission of Orange County
  • Kendra Noel Lewis, Executive Director, Sacramento Housing Alliance
  • Jose Ayala, Housing Policy Specialist, Department of Housing and Community Development
