Dear Friend,

I want to fill you in on some of the legislative milestones of the past few weeks, and the new challenges we are facing as a community heading into spring.

This week, President Biden signed annual government funding legislation that includes nearly $8 million for community projects right here in California's 28th District. Those dollars will be used to support ten wonderful organizations in Glendale, Burbank, and Los Angeles that provide life-saving health services, emergency housing, small business support, and public safety improvements. I look forward to seeing all of the good that these organizations will accomplish.

The bill has funding for other priorities as well, including protecting democracy around the world. Last month, Vladimir Putin launched an unprovoked war against Ukraine. It was exactly the kind of naked aggression that we feared – and something we’d been preparing for in coordination with our allies in Ukraine and Europe. The Ukrainian people, led by President Zelenskyy, have been heroic in their resistance to Putin’s onslaught. And Congress has been working in bipartisan fashion to support them by imposing debilitating sanctions on Putin's regime and sending $13 billion in aid to our democratic ally.

Finally, earlier this month, I attended President Biden's State of the Union address. He laid out an important vision for the country, but there was one moment in particular that stood out to me. He called on Congress to repeal the liability shield that makes gun manufacturers and dealers the only industry in America that can't be sued for negligence. I have just the bill to do it: The Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, which would finally give victims of gun violence and their families their day in court. I was inspired by President Biden’s support, and I won’t stop fighting until my bill becomes law.

So with all this in mind, I head into springtime energized by what we’ve achieved – and ready to overcome whatever obstacles lie ahead.

Sincerely,

Member of Congress
