National Harm Reduction Coalition
March 18, 2022

To our community,

It is with both sadness and gratitude we acknowledge Monique Tula’s retirement today from her role as Executive Director of NHRC. Since joining National Harm Reduction Coalition in 2016, Monique has helped propel the organization forward in many ways, including:

- Implementing the North Star statement that centers the organization’s work around healing the harms of racist drug policies
- Nurturing stronger representation of BIPOC in leadership roles
- Growing NHRC’s programming scope, size, and national reach
- Expanding NHRC’s individual donors
- Securing financial resources for major new initiatives that support grassroots organizations critical to the harm reduction community

We are deeply grateful for her service and share her unrelenting commitment to harm reduction and social justice. We are very excited to share that Dr. Anthony Salandy will serve as the Interim Executive Director while the organization searches for a permanent leader. Dr. Salandy will assume the role as of tomorrow, March 19th, and will work with the Board and staff to ensure a smooth transition.

Meet the New Interim Executive Director

Anthony Daryl Salandy, Ph.D., MSc. (he/him) has been developing and advancing data-driven solutions to address complex social and organizational challenges for over 20 years. Dr. Salandy is a fierce advocate and researcher of health equity and social justice issues. He is a former American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Legislative and Executive Branch Policy Fellow in the US Congress and at NIH/NIDA respectively. He has a Ph.D., and MSc. in Human Development from Auburn University and BS in Biology from Rust College.

National Harm Reduction Coalition has launched a national search for our next Executive Director. This is a remarkable opportunity for an outstanding leader to join a groundbreaking organization and lead a group of passionate and talented staff, partners, and advocates in transforming the landscape for harm reduction nationwide.
