Dear Friend,

While Texas passed anti-trans legislation last year, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are currently trying to separate families who support their transgender children and trying to criminalize support for trans children. Texas has even gone as far as eliminating suicide prevention resources aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community from state websites, <[link removed]>despite advocates’ pleas with lawmakers to allow for life-saving gender-affirming health care for trans youth.

This year URGE priority states- Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, and Kansas have all joined Texas in the hateful fight to oppress trans kids. Each of these states is moving on anti-transgender legislation that would restrict trans children’s participation in K-12 sports and their access to critical health care options.

Transgender and nonbinary youth face elevated risks of depression, thoughts of suicide, and suicide attempts compared to cisgender youth, whether heterosexual or LGBTQ+ (1) <[link removed]>. Of course, this disparity is even more grave for transgender and nonbinary youth of color. Black transgender and nonbinary youth report disproportionate rates of suicide risk — with 59% seriously considering suicide and more than 1 in 4 (26%) attempting suicide in the past year (1) <[link removed]>.

Transphobic legislation and rhetoric from lawmakers are killing children, full stop.

Young people are queerer, more trans, and more out, and they are supported by family and community now more than ever. These attacks are a direct result of this shift because these lawmakers are dedicated to upholding white supremacy, and - of course - the gender binary as we know it is a manifestation of white supremacy.

You can help us fight this harmful legislation. Donate to URGE right now to support the work of my policy team across our states as we fight these bills during the current legislative sessions and beyond. <[link removed]>

Our goal is to raise $5,000, can you help us achieve that goal by giving $25 today? <[link removed]>
