Exactly two years ago today, John, we won a primary victory that many pundits thought was impossible.

We won in the face of adversity. We not only defeated a long-time incumbent and a political machine that backed him, but we powered through GOTV in a public health crisis. This was made possible by the best team of grassroots organizers and volunteers that any candidate could imagine.

We knocked on 100,000 doors, made over 200,000 phone calls, hosted 318 meet and greets, sent nearly 50,000 postcards, and contacted thousands of our neighbors. Together, we proudly promoted our values and showed the voters of the Southwest Side that a new day was possible.

Two years later, we continue to lift each other up and make progress. We have refused to be complacent, we have not wavered in fighting for our principles, and despite the many obstacles in our way, we have results to show for it — from the economic relief Chicagoans got through the American Rescue Plan, to the greater equity in transit access that came from the infrastructure bill. I've used my voice to make sure legislation out of Congress leaves no one behind, and I'll keep doing that every day of my tenure.

No movement happens overnight. I lost my first race for Congress, so I know that firsthand. But every connection we make with a voter helps us build something bigger – block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood. We never stopped working after 2018, and we never stopped after 2020. And if we keep our efforts up, I know that we can soon experience another incredible victory like the one we had two years ago.
