We're thrilled to announce that last week President Biden signed the omnibus spending package. Derek supported this bill to keep the government open and fund critical priorities for our region. The legislation includes investments in jobs, affordable housing, economic opportunities in rural areas, and our environment.
Included in this new law is funding Derek championed for ten local community projects, totaling $22.9 million in new funding for our region. That included:
$4.5 Million to Support Affordable Housing and Jobs in Tacoma
Every Washingtonian deserves access to affordable, safe, and warm housing. The funding Derek secured will go toward building more affordable housing in Tacoma and creating good-paying jobs to strengthen our economy.
$2.5 Million for Downtown Revitalization in Bremerton
The Quincy Square project in downtown Bremerton will be a key step in the effort to revitalize the city center, enable new economic development, and support more affordable housing investment.
$9.95 Million to Protect Grays Harbor from flooding
Derek secured funding for the community to make investments in resilience that can prevent flooding and enable new housing and economic development in Aberdeen and Hoquiam. Roughly $2 million per year leaves the community to pay for flood insurance, and with these investments, more of those dollars will be able to stay in our community.
$900,000 to Expand the Port Angeles Food Bank
The Port Angeles Food Bank has served Clallam County and provided food assistance to people in need since 1975. They have continued to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this funding will help them expand their critical services.
