Did you hear the news about UC Berkeley last week? A NIMBY group sued UC Berkeley on bogus environmental grounds, claiming that college students harm the environment.

The bitter irony is that, if they had won, it would have been a disaster for the environment! Every college student prohibited from living there would end up somewhere where they’d cause more carbon emissions, more pollution, and more cars on the road.

This is just the latest example of NIMBYs across the country weaponizing environmental laws to block housing, transit, and bike lanes — all things that actually help preserve the environment.

For Joanna, this fight is personal. Joanna herself gave birth to her first child this winter, Beatrix. Her mission, and our collective mission, is centered on the hope that Beatrix — and all children — can grow up in a world of clean, green cities, safe from wildfire, floods, drought, and climate disasters.
