Children working in mines — it's a scary image, and it's exactly what's happening in the mica mines of Madagascar. Today's segments on NBC told the story of a few of these children. They should be in school but instead, a quarter of all children — some as young as five — are put at risk and forced to work in unhealthy and dangerous mines.

The NBC report showed a complicated supply chain of mica and the mineral's use in our own daily lives. It also showed who's really propping up that supply chain: children — and we must do something to stop it.

UNICEF is working to break the cycle of poverty that forces vulnerable families to resort to child labor, providing safe spaces for children to learn and play while their parents are at work. We're also advocating for stronger national and international child labor policies. But we need your help.
