Dear John,

Since I sent the below email, President Biden has announced $800 million in additional military funding for Ukraine. AFSC joins in global agony at seeing the devastation of yet another war. We unequivocally call for a full and immediate withdrawal of Russian troops and an end to air and sea attacks in Ukraine. But flooding the region with additional weapons and escalating violent conflict is not the answer. We have seen time and again that military aid and military intervention may sound like decisive ways to protect civilians from war, but they have failed to offer that desired protection. We need to find new ways to end global violence, not reflexively fuel its cycles.

Instead of funding weapons and militarism, the U.S. should make a deep investment in diplomacy, refugee protection, humanitarian assistance, and better tools for democratic engagement. We need your help to show President Biden that there is public support for responses to end war in Ukraine without further fueling violence. Please join us in taking action today! [link removed]

In peace,

Dear John,

As tensions escalate between the U.S. and Russia, Congress is debating sending even more weapons into the region.

Tell Congress: Stop the military escalation in Ukraine. [link removed]

Peaceful ends can only be achieved through peaceful means. Flooding the region with more weapons and military financing is not the answer. The U.S. has over-invested in the military and under-invested in diplomacy and international cooperation. Additional military funding will only increase tensions and further enrich defense contractors.

Urge policymakers to say NO to more weapons and invest in diplomacy and international cooperation instead. [link removed]

Now is the time to engage in talks to protect human lives and dignity. Please join us in urging Congress to invest in our shared security through nonviolent means.

In peace,

Aura Kanegis
