An update on maps
The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling is the best of the worst

Hi John,

Earlier this month, the Wisconsin Supreme Court adopted a new maps option under a “least change” framework. While this decision made moderate improvements, truly fair maps remain elusive.

This ruling avoids the worst outcome, but these maps remain hyper-partisan and consolidate Republican single-party power without considering the will of the people and well-being of Wisconsinites.

Bottom line: they further erode our ability to choose our own representatives.

Over the last decade, we have observed the perilous effects and impacts of gerrymandering on the lives of Wisconsinites especially when it comes to issues like clean air, clean water, and the freedom to vote.

When anti-democratic politicians draw electoral maps that entrench one-party rule, it’s easier for them to ignore popular, majority calls for clean water rules, the transition to clean energy, and protection of our public lands. These maps are bad for democracy – and they’re bad for our health and well-being.

Under these maps, the effort for a cleaner, healthier Wisconsin is more important than ever. We all deserve a healthy future. One that allows us to prosper, spend time with family and friends, enjoy the outdoors, and be secure in our ability to choose those who represent us at all levels of government – and lead our communities with positive, civic-minded action.

Thanks for being a conservation voter,
