Dear John,
Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, Urgent Action Fund (UAF) has been making rapid response grants to support feminist, trans, and non-binary activists in Ukraine with urgent needs and rising security concerns.
Thanks to an outpouring of donations and support, we’ve already made 14 grants as of March 15, with more than 12 others in the pipeline. These grants have supported evacuation efforts, improved access to resources, medication and security for those who have chosen to stay in Ukraine, and have helped underserved and underrepresented communities, including transgender people, LBGTQI communities, people of color, Roma communities, and others.
Our model of rapid response funding was built for moments like this, where quick infusions of money can help address immediate and urgent needs. UAF is committed to being flexible and responsive in this moment, as well as listening to and learning from all of our partners and advisors in Ukraine and the surrounding areas in Eastern Europe.

This is just the beginning, and the ongoing effects - as well as the after-effects - of this war have huge implications for women and gender rights movements in Ukraine and across Eastern Europe. We anticipate receiving 200 requests for support in the next two months, and many more after that.
The escalating needs are great, but together we can uplift and sustain human rights defenders at the center of the crisis.
Make a gift today and stand in solidarity with those in Ukraine.
In solidarity,
Urgent Action Fund
