Hey there —
Happy March! It’s been a busy few months since I last updated you. 2022 is already in full swing and House Democrats are continuing to make progress for all of us in Congress. Today, I wanted to share some of what we’ve been able to accomplish with our Democratic majority.
I also want to share the news that I have earned the endorsement of the California Democratic Party! The support of California Democrats has always meant a lot to me – but this year we’re in a new district, and I am especially grateful to know so many Democrats share my values and priorities.
Below you’ll find information on what’s happening in Congress and in San Diego. You can also follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get our most timely updates. Thank you for everything you’ve done to support my campaign. So much of this work could not be done without you.

Solidarity with Ukraine
Over the past few weeks, we’ve watched Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in horror. This is a war of choice – an unprovoked attack on Ukrainian sovereignty and self-governance. Scott – and all of us on Team Peters – are standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and we strongly condemn this invasion of a budding democracy.
Scott is standing with President Biden as we invoke tough economic sanctions on Russia. He voted in favor of a bipartisan bill to ban energy imports from Russia and he’ll continue to support strong sanctions to weaken Russia’s unjustified aggression. Scott also joined his colleagues in the House to approve $13.6 billion in economic, humanitarian, and military aid to Ukraine.
Demanding Equal Pay
This month, we recognize Equal Pay Day. Last year, the average American woman earned just .82 cents for every dollar men make for the same work. And for Black and Latina women, this disparity is even greater. Scott knows it’s long past time to ensure equal pay for equal work.
The House has already passed the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would take a critical step forward in the fight to end wage discrimination. Scott wholeheartedly supported this legislation and helped it pass the House in April last year – but now, it’s waiting for a vote in the Senate. If you want to sign our petition demanding equal pay for equal work, you can do so

Investing in San Diego Communities
Congress passed a historic omnibus spending package for FY 2022 – and thanks to Scott’s leadership, it includes seven projects in our community that will directly benefit San Diego residents. These include investments in UCSD and San Diego community colleges, critical improvements for the City of Poway’s water storage system, and investments in public transportation throughout San Diego.
The spending bill also reauthorizes the Violence Against Women Act, provides support for our veterans, invests billions in K-12 education, expands Pell Grants for college students, and dedicates important funding for housing, transportation, small businesses, and more.
STANDUP Act
Scott’s STANDUP Act has passed both chambers of Congress and was just signed into law by President Biden! This critical piece of legislation will provide schools with evidence-based suicide prevention and awareness training to help students and educators identify warning signs and intervene when students are at risk of harming themselves or others. We’ve seen an alarming rise in mental health challenges among our students – that’s why Scott is so focused on keeping all of our students safe.
Methamphetamine Response Act
President Biden has also signed the bipartisan Methamphetamine Response Act, which Scott introduced with Senator Feinstein and colleagues across the aisle. This legislation will declare methamphetamine as an emerging drug threat and call on the Office of National Drug Control Policy to create a national response plan to address addiction and overdose. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a heartbreaking rise in meth overdoses and deaths – that’s why strong action is much-needed in confronting this threat. Scott was glad to join President Biden at the White House for the bill signing and he’s ready to see the federal government tackle this important issue head-on.
Thanking the #AfghanEvac Coalition and Advocating for Critical Legislation
Scott joined local leaders and members of the volunteer coalition to call on Congress to pass an Afghan Adjustment Act. Approximately 70,000 Afghan refugees have come to the U.S. since evacuating Afghanistan in August. An Afghan Adjustment Act would provide continued, critical humanitarian efforts and a path to permanent legal status for our Afghan allies who fought bravely beside Americans for the past 20 years.
