Friends,
I hope you were able to watch Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s powerful address to Congress yesterday. His passionate remarks and gripping video continue to underscore President Zelenskyy’s steadfast dedication to his country and its people; it’s inspiring to say the least.
President Zelenskyy’s message to America was clear: be the global leader I know you can be. And while meeting all of his requests for military assistance cannot be done, there are clear steps the United States can take to support Ukraine and aid the world. This includes securing our energy independence.
In a piece that was published in Real Clear Energy just ahead of President Zelenskyy’s speech, I wrote, “Members of Congress can best serve their constituents and our NATO allies not through a military response but by focusing on economic blows to Vladimir Putin—committing to making America energy independent again should top the list.” I continue, “We can support further development of renewables in Europe and America, and we must continue investing in research and development for innovative technologies, not just for our country, but to export to our allies to help them lower
global emissions. In the meantime, we must be practical; renewables are not yet advanced enough without long-term energy storage capabilities. We should be investing in all homegrown energy sources today for tomorrow’s use.”
The United States has a responsibility to Ukraine, our allies and the American people, and we have the means to lead the world to economic stability and energy security. I hope you will take a moment to read my piece, Make America Energy Independent Again. As always, please share your feedback with me on Twitter.
Take care,
Heather Reams
