The House impeachment inquiry begins its second week of public hearings,
with eight more witnesses scheduled, including US Ambassador to the EU
Gordon Sondland, one of several people who’ve linked the holdup in aid for
Ukraine with Trump’s desire for investigations into the Bidens.

If last week’s hearings were any indication of how things will go,
featuring Republican's partisan conspiracy strategy and Trump’s further
abuses of power involving witness intimidation and harassment tactics,
then we’ve got our work cut out this week. But first, here’s what we
learned last week:

 1. Republicans are dead set on making these hearings an entrenched,
partisan dogfight. Despite the credibility of the witnesses and their
expert testimonies that all corroborated a poorly executed attempt to
coerce Ukraine into a Biden investigation, Republicans stuck to their
partisan talking points and refused to address the very same (and
simple) question we’ve been asking them: Is Trump's request for
foreign countries to investigate political opponents acceptable?
 2. Trump has utter contempt for the rules of law and this impeachment
hearing. And he’s going to regret it. During Ambassador Maria
Yovanovitch’s testimony, Trump began smearing the ambassador’s
reputation, in a clear attempt to intimidate her into silence. This
falls in line with a long history of Trump using his position to
intimidate and quell opposition, but it didn't work. Amb. Yovanovitch
continued to testify, and we have yet another clear abuse of power
that will lead to his impeachment.
 3. These witnesses are credible. Despite Trump’s unfounded attack against
Yovanovitch’s distinguished career, Republicans were unable to attack
her, Ambassador Taylor or George Kent's reputations, and instead had
to plead that their information was simply not firsthand. But even
that message is crumbling under pressure.
 4. Our work is not done. House Republicans are facing very public
scrutiny of their defense of Donald Trump and refusal to continue a
fair impeachment hearing, but we can do so much more to really put the
pressure on them and Senate Republicans.

Luckily, Indivisibles have already been on the job. In October, we put out
the call for Indivisibles to help up reach friendly voters in key states
with vulnerable Republican senators, to bring more people into this
impeachment fight. We set a lofty goal of 1 million calls before the
impeachment vote, and we’re thrilled to announce that you’ve already made
over 500,000 calls to hold this administration accountable!

We’re now getting word that there may be a voter before the end of the
year, which means we need to make a lot more calls to make it clear to
Senate Republicans that we are demanding a fair and open impeachment

 1. [ [link removed] ]Sign up to make some calls connecting voters to senators to demand
a complete and fair impeachment trial. We’ve said this already, but
we’re halfway to our goal of calling one million constituents of the
13 senators who really need to hear from them (senators who are
vulnerable because they’re up for reelection next year and folks who
are retiring and worrying a lot about their legacies). We're asking
you to call voters in those states to turn up the pressure on their
elected officials. It’s a simple four-part process:

* You call a progressive voter in a key state with one of these 13
Republicans. These folks are your friends—they attended the
Women’s March and/or fight for progressive causes.
* You explain how they have power now. You’ll remind them why the
continued fight for impeachment is so important—and why they have
particular power in this moment.
* You ask them to use their power. Then, you’ll ask them to call
their senator and make their voices heard on why we’re demanding
courage in this moment.
* You push a button and connect them to their senator’s office. The
call tool will allow you to automatically patch them through to
the senator’s local office.

 2. [ [link removed] ]Register or find a Trump is Not Above the Law Impeachment Eve event
now. The night before the House of Representatives takes a historic
vote to impeach Trump, we'll head to every congressional office and
public square to declare that Nobody Is Above the Law as
representatives finalize their positions and senators look on. There
are more than 265 events on the map as of now with more being added
every day. Take a look to find (or host) one near you.
 3. [ [link removed] ]Tell Congress to #DefundHate in the November funding bill. There
are only a few days left for Congress to fund the government before it
could shut down, and the situation is still up in the air. Make sure
to call your Representative and Senators to tell them not to give ICE
or CBP any special increases in funding -- dial 1-844-778-3056 to be
connected.

projects related to democracy reform and our vision for what happens
after we take back the Senate and the White House in 2021.

 2020 Update 

This week we’re looking forward to the next Democratic debate taking place
in Atlanta. On Thursday, the ten candidates that qualified for the debate
will face off in the second to last debate of the year. We’re also looking
back at a victory from this weekend and some shake-ups in the Democratic
presidential primaries.

* We're thrilled to announce that over the next week, we're conducting
individual interviews with 2020ers and live-streaming it to you! We've
developed a star list of questions with input from group leaders, and
we'll kick it off this Thursday with Elizabeth Warren and Tom Steyer.
Then Monday (a week from today) we have Cory Booker and Julían Castro
joining us. Don't see your favorite? Don't worry - we have invitations
out to other campaigns but we're still solidifying the details. We'll
keep you posted and post specific times on social tomorrow!
Indivisibles won’t be just bystanders in the 2020 election, and this
is just one way we're taking part.
 
* [ [link removed] ]Democratic governor reelected in Louisiana. Louisiana’s Democratic
Gov. John Bel Edwards won reelection on Saturday by more than 40,000
votes in a race that attracted national attention. The victory in
Louisiana only solidified what the victory in Kentucky showed: Allying
yourself with Trump is not a winning strategy and Democrats are
competitive in all states.

* [ [link removed] ]Pete Buttigieg surges in Iowa. Two new polls show that Mayor Pete
Buttigieg is rising in Iowa, the first state to vote in the
presidential primaries next. According to a [ [link removed] ]CNN/ Des Moines
Register/Mediacom poll, Buttigieg is now in first place in Iowa with
25% of the vote. A [ [link removed] ]CBS News/YouGov poll also shows a close race in
the state with Sen. Bernie Sanders and former-Vice President Joe Biden
each getting 22% of the vote and Buttigieg getting 21%.

* [ [link removed] ]Fifth presidential Democratic debates. The debates this Thursday
co-hosted by MSNBC and The Washington Post will air live from 9 p.m.
to 11 p.m. ET. They are the first debates to take place after the
House began public hearings for its impeachment inquiry into Trump.
This will also be only the second time that a presidential debate is
moderated by an all-female panel.
