If you’ve heard anything about Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, or the attacks on trans youth across the country, you’re probably devastated. On top of that, young people continue to face discrimination based on their sexual orientation and gender identity in schools, workplaces, and federally-funded services, such as homeless shelters (a particularly egregious attack given that queer and trans youth are more likely to be homeless than young straight individuals).
You may be thinking, “I’ve got to do something.” While the Equality Act won’t solve every problem, it would ensure that LGBTQ-identified youth are protected from discrimination in schools and end discrimination in federally funded services, meaning they cannot be turned away from service-providers or shelters simply for being who they are.
Young people are coming together to act. Especially if you’ve never called your Senator’s office before, this is the event for you.

On Thursday, March 24th, young people are going to hop on Zoom real quick, and get an update on the Equality Act. Then, we’ll have a youth activist demonstrate how to make an effective call to your Senator. Finally, we’ll all start calling, and you can feel free to ask questions at any time. That’s it. Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.
We’ve heard two things from our friends on Capitol Hill that are concerning:
- That Senators are unsure if LGBTQ folks, especially youth, deserve fairness at school, work, and in other public settings
- That some Senators are misinformed about the Equality Act and what it might mean for LGBTQ youth
Senators on both sides of the aisle need to feel the pressure to act! And the only people they’ll listen to right now are the people they represent - YOU!
