Putin's war is not only an attack on Ukraine's territorial integrity, but a
brutal attack on the rule of law, democracy and peace in Europe - the
foundations on which the European Union was built in the aftermath of World
War II.

We continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and condemn Russia's
shameful military action which flagrantly violates international law.
Greens across Europe have expressed solidarity with the Ukraine, called for
sanctions and prepared to welcome refugees.

The respect of Ukraine's sovereignty implies the respect for its right to
freely choose its alliances. Ukraine has a right to freedom and democracy,
and we must act swiftly to protect these rights.

Greens in government take on the Right to Energy

Already today, between 50 to 125 million people are unable to keep their
homes adequately warm. Now, over 80 million people are at risk of losing
access to affordable energy.

We are fighting to improve energy access because we believe everyone has a
right to energy. Greens in Government are tackling the energy crisis in
Austria, Belgium, Germany and Ireland, to name a few - providing direct
help as well as long term policy solutions.

The Green Screen: stream 'Maidan' for free

Between 23-24 March, you can watch the documentary 'Maidan' by the director
Sergei Loznitsa for free as part of our The Green Screen project.

'Maidan' chronicles the civil uprising against the regime of president
Yanukovych which took place in Kyiv (Ukraine) in the winter of 2013-2014.
The film follows the progress of the revolution: from peaceful rallies,
half a million strong, in Maidan Square, to bloody street battles between
protestors and riot police. 'Maidan' is a portrait of an awakening nation
rediscovering its identity.

Following the screening of 'Maidan', we are hosting a debate on Thursday 24
March at 19:30 CET. We aim to explore the recent past to better understand
the political and social demands as well as the struggles of the people of
Ukraine over the last decade. We will be joined by journalists, activists,
politicians and academics who have been working and reporting from Ukraine.
During the session, they will share their unique perspectives and discuss
Russia's post-Soviet ambitions to control its former states, the Maidan
Revolution, and how the events of 2013 and 2014 are connected to today's
war.

Fossil Corporations: Divest From Russia!

European governments are condemning Putin's war in Ukraine and adopting
economic sanctions. One crucial sector is still largely untouched: oil and
gas.

European corporations, such as Shell and BP from the UK, TotalEnergies and
Engie from France, Uniper and BASF from Germany, ENI from Italy, Equinor
from Norway, OMV from Austria, Fortum from Finland and others are deeply
involved in the Russian energy market. They own shares of oil and gas
companies, oil and gas fields, infrastructure, and invest in different
fossil fuel projects.

Recent announcements of some corporations to pull out of the Russian fossil
market are positive developments, and we need to continue building citizen
pressure to ensure they follow through.

We demand that the above-mentioned corporations:

*

Divest from Russian oil & gas companies, sell their stocks, step down from
their boards, disengage from existing and new pipelines, fossil
explorations, and any other joint venture of fossil fuels
*

Invest this money in renewables and energy efficiency in Europe
