Greetings,

I believe firmly that good government requires political parties to be willing to compromise and seek bipartisan solutions. However, one area on which I will always fight Republicans is their repeated attempts to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community.

And believe me, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to do so these past few years.

In fact, during this last legislative session, the Senate saw an abhorrent bill that would legalize discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals. Senate Democrats promptly killed it in Committee. The House of Delegates had a companion bill, and because the GOP has the majority, it actually passed all Committee and Floor votes. When that bill came to the Senate, Senate Democrats once again stood strong with the LGBTQ+ community and voted it down in Committee.

I chair the Senate Subcommittee on Public Education, and this committee stood as a xxxxxx against proposed legislation that would have targeted our trans youth in school, in sports, and in their ability to be recognized by their identities. We’ve seen the dangerous actions that Texas is taking against trans children. I refuse to let those shameful policies root themselves in Virginia.

This is why it is so important that Democrats retain their Senate majority, team, which is currently just a single seat. I’m asking you to support my re-election effort to ensure my seat isn’t the one that puts the GOP in control.

With the Governor’s mansion and House of Delegates already under Republican rule, a Senate takeover would all but guarantee a flood of discriminatory laws aimed at punishing our LGBTQ+ friends and loved ones. We can’t let Virginia turn into Texas.
