I have exciting news to share with you!
The legislature passed an important bill that I proposed to expand access to affordable health care in Washington. This bill will dramatically increase the number of Washingtonians eligible for free or reduced-cost health care at our hospitals, lifting a burden that traps many in a cycle of debt.
Without this legislation, a single parent working full-time for $17 an hour did not qualify for medical financial assistance. That’s unacceptable. Now, thanks to our legislation, an additional 1 million Washingtonians will have access to substantial discounts on hospital bills. On top of that, free hospital care will be guaranteed to 1 million more Washingtonians.
This new law will strengthen the social safety net for retired seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and middle-income Washingtonians.
Health care costs are a leading cause for bankruptcy. One trip to the hospital traps many in a cycle of debt. Health care is not a luxury — we must make sure people are able to get the care they need without crippling debt.
I won’t stop fighting to provide high-quality, affordable health care to every Washingtonian. Will you donate today to support me in continuing this work?
