Christian Nationalists believe his war is right

“Can we get a round of applause for Russia?”

That was Nick Fuentes, a speaker at a White Christian Nationalist event held just days after Putin’s violent invasion of Ukraine.

Attendees cheered in response, “Putin! Putin!”.

It’s hard to imagine anyone supporting the Russian government’s vicious acts against Ukrainians. But White Christian Nationalists have been a cheerleader of Putin for years.

Back in 2014, American evangelist, Franklin Graham wrote admiringly about Putin’s efforts to protect children from the “propaganda of homosexuality.”

Christian Nationalists believe Putin is fighting the same spiritual war they are - one against an increasingly plural and secular society. They believe their God is calling for a certain outcome - and if democracy isn’t delivering on that - then it’s time to do whatever it takes.

It’s tempting to think these are just fringe views. But Nick Fuentes - the speaker calling for applause for Russia’s actions - was also a speaker at the January 6 insurrection. Christian Nationalists behind the insurrection haven’t gone anywhere. They’ve organized themselves and strengthened their numbers - and they’re in the midst of a massive, electoral project to win elected offices across the country.

We’re in the midst of our own midterm year efforts - to identify and recruit atheists and secular champions to run for office - and to support their electoral efforts.

Will you support these efforts to secure our democracy from the dangerous rising tide of Christian Nationalist forces? Please contribute $15, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford.

We cannot take our democracy for granted. Right-wing, Christian Nationalist movements in the United States have been energized.

To counter them, over the last several years, we’ve worked to support candidates that will hold insurrectionists accountable and strengthen the separation of church and state. People like Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-8), who co-founded the Congressional Freethought Caucus and today sits on the January 6 Committee. Representative Raskin has been a vital champion for our democracy, forcefully speaking out against the lies and fanaticism that fueled that violent attack on our government.

With the midterms later this year, it’s critical that we can fully fund our efforts to support these secular champions against right-wing extremists. Help support champions in Congress who are defending our democracy against Christian Nationalist extremists.

Thanks as always for your support.
