The stakes could not be higher.
John,
Control of the Senate might come down to flipping Ohio’s open seat from red to blue — and the stakes could not be higher.
This month one of the top Senate Republicans, Sen. Rick Scott, released a Republican tax proposal to raise taxes on nearly half of Americans.
That’s right: Republicans want to raise taxes on as many as 100 million Americans while continuing to cut taxes for the ultra-rich and big corporations. To make sure we have a progressive advocate in the Senate fighting back against this far-right plan, can you rush a contribution to Morgan Harper today?
According to the nonpartisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, Rick Scott’s tax plan amounts to a tax increase on 34.4% of Ohioans.
And that’s not all. Scott’s plan also says that when in power, the GOP will:
- Give politicians in Washington, not teachers or parents, final say over what our kids learn about our history in school.
- Ban the Census from even collecting data on people of color in this country.
- Shrink the government by 25% at a time when we need it to do more to help struggling families, not less.
- Further discriminate against LGBTQ people in government policy, taxation, and data collection.
This is our Republican opponents’ agenda, John: gutting the federal government and taxing the working class, disabled people, and retired people in order to enrich the wealthy at our expense.
We can’t defeat it with some middle-of-the-road equivocation by a moderate Democrat. We need a bold vision of what the government can do to help people to fight against the far-right crony capitalism of the current GOP.
That’s why Morgan is running for Senate: To represent working people and to fight for the progress our communities need. If you’re with us, chip in $5 before our upcoming end-of-quarter deadline.
Contribute $5
Rick Scott’s plan has made it clear that the GOP is seeking to use culture war tropes and scare tactics to divide us from our neighbors — in order to exploit us and enrich their corporate friends. If we come together, we can beat them.
Thanks for being on our team.
