John, I’m writing with some great news. This past Saturday the Virginia General Assembly adjourned Sine Die and we’re happy to share that all bills targeting transgender and non-binary youth in Virginia were DEFEATED in committee! Thank you for sending a resounding message to lawmakers that TRANS YOUTH BELONG in Virginia! Now is the time to keep up the momentum and show transgender and non-binary youth in Virginia that we’ve got their back. Whether it’s legislative attacks at the General Assembly or pushing for stronger policies in schools, EV’s Safe Schools Action Network (SSAN) is ready to fight for trans rights and we hope you will too by supporting our Safe Schools Campaign TODAY. |

You’ll fund critical work for the fight ahead and help provide resources, training, and more for transgender and non-binary advocates in every corner of our Commonwealth. Here’s what you will help EV do: - Direct transportation grants for community members and advocates to travel to Richmond during the 2023 legislative session
- Distribute stipends to transgender and non-binary youth for participation in coalition meetings
- Create healing spaces with licensed counselors for transgender youth advocates and their families after committee hearings
- Develop essential grassroots organizing toolkits
- Provide leadership and advocacy training for transgender and non-binary youth
- Invest in rapid response technology to increase constituent mobilization.
- Support EV’s 2023 Youth Advocacy Day
- Strengthen local and national community partnerships to halt anti-trans efforts
Equality Virginia strives to make our legislative, educational, and advocacy programming accessible to all. We believe there should be no barriers to participating in the civic process, and recognize barriers exist to keep LGBTQ+ people, Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) out. With your support today, EV can provide ASL and Spanish language interpretation at events, participation and travel stipends to local advocates, and much more. Building an equitable framework where all feel supported will take work but I have no doubt we can do it together by centering trust, transparency, and prioritizing trauma-informed care. Join the Safe Schools Campaign and make a sustainable investment in grassroots organizing infrastructure in Virginia. Together, we can continue sending a message to transgender and non-binary youth that they are loved and that they belong. Yours In The Fight, Narissa Rahaman Executive Director she/her |
