Dear John,
Our right to breathe clean air and drink clean water should be as fundamental as our right to vote.
For this reason, the 37 environmental, conservation, and public health organizations that make up Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition firmly support LD 489, commonly known as the Pine Tree Amendment .
The Pine Tree Amendment would add to the Bill of Rights in the Maine Constitution that all Maine people have a “ ... right to a clean and healthy environment… ” This would mean that our state and local governments have a responsibility to protect our natural resources – like air, land, and water – for present and future generations.
Final votes in the Legislature on LD 489 could happen soon. Wondering how you can help support the Pine Tree Amendment?

Similar amendments are already reflected in the constitutions of Pennsylvania and Montana and are under active consideration by eleven additional states. In Maine, we know that safeguarding our air, land, and water is essential in protecting our health, jobs, and way of life. As we confront environmental challenges from PFAS pollution to climate change, let’s make sure Maine is in a position to lead.

Thank you in advance for taking action.
