As the threat of violence grew and shelling edged closer to their home in Ukraine, Maria picked up her 3-year-old daughter, Kseyna, and fled to find safety for her family. Another mother, Valeria, feared for her 4-month-old baby. She wasn’t sure where to go, but she knew she had to leave.
Right now, these are the realities facing the hundreds of thousands of women and children who are fleeing Ukraine as they uproot their lives to seek safety while stepping into the unknown. As we’ve seen in Ukraine, around the world and throughout history, when conflict arrives at their doorstep, women protect their children — at all costs.
As the number of Ukrainian refugees increases – many of whom are women and children – so does their need for support. In honor of Women’s History Month, you can support the women who are taking unthinkable measures to protect their families in the face of the war in Ukraine. Rush a gift to help >> |
Families like Maria and Kseyna, Valeria and her baby and millions more need support, now.
UNICEF is working around the clock to meet their needs by building more Blue Dot safe spaces in neighboring countries along key transit routes and scaling up response efforts. A gift from you can help displaced families with services like health care, psychosocial support, protection against violence, and family tracing and unification.

Across the world — from Ukraine and Afghanistan to Syria and Yemen — women and children are being disproportionately affected by crises like war and forced migration. Together, we will do what it takes to help them protect their children’s lives and futures.
Thanks for supporting women and children, this month and always.
