Dear John,

This past weekend, we watched as protests erupted in Iran in response to the government announcement of an increase in the price of gasoline. The Iranian government responded with a violent clamp down against demonstrators and the severing of nearly all Internet connections between Iran and the rest of the world. This communication blackout has left many of us sitting and anxiously waiting for any news from our loved ones back in Iran.

Unfortunately, U.S. sanctions against Iran have made it far easier to cut off the Internet for ordinary Iranians. While only the Iranian people can choose their destiny, we have an opportunity and obligation to stand up for the right to freedom of speech by making sure our government's sanctions do not aide Iran's government in denying that right.

Take Action

For Iranian Americans and our allies, standing in solidarity with Iranians who seek to hold their own government to account must mean holding our government to account – beginning with demanding they lift Internet restrictions. Send a letter to your elected officials today urging that sanctions that restrict Internet access for Iranians be lifted.
