Friends, each year my colleagues and I work on a massive spending bill to address our nation’s needs and some of our biggest challenges.

And each year, my team and I work around the clock to ensure that in each spending bill, we are also providing much needed support to the people of the Virgin Islands.

Thanks to a bipartisan effort, our latest spending bill is on its way to President Biden’s desk! I am happy to share with you some of the critical funding we secured for our local priorities:

• Funding for all House-approved Community Project Funding requested by the Virgin Islands;
• Extension of the increased rate of federal funding for Medicaid through the end of the year which puts us on par with the rest of the US;
• Reauthorization of programs enacted under the Violence Against Women Act, including my amendment that doubles the minimum amount of funding made available to the Virgin Islands;

And so much more! Team, when Democrats are leading Congress, we invest in the American people. That is why we got elected and why it is more important than ever that come January 2023, Democrats are still in the driver’s seat. This bill will help working families, create jobs, support underserved areas, foster economic growth, and most importantly, ensure that we are able to effectively respond to the needs of the people of the Virgin Islands.
