A rich and powerful shadow network of religious extremists and their political allies is using a Supreme Court case to advance their own religious and political agenda. AU needs your immediate help to expose and stop them.

Dear AU Supporter,

Few Supreme Court cases are as simple as they seem.

That’s especially true in AU’s landmark school-prayer case, Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, about a coach who violated the religious freedom of students by pressuring them to join his public prayers at the 50-yard line at public high school football games. I’ve told you about what one judge called a “deceitful narrative” spun by the coach’s powerful right-wing law firm, First Liberty—claiming that he just wanted to pray quietly by himself. Anyone can plainly see in the photos and videos that the coach repeatedly held public prayers with students.

But our opposition is bigger than one individual and the team of lawyers who represent him. We’re actually arguing against a vast and powerful network of groups and individuals dead set on imposing their religious and political beliefs on our country.

This $1 billion network is using the case as a pawn to serve their own agendas, and we need your support to stop them. Help us fight this shadow network with a contribution today: [link removed]

This month, more than 50 extremist organizations and more than a hundred of their allies, including Members of Congress, state legislators, and state attorneys general, filed friend-of-the-court briefs to persuade the court’s conservative majority to corrupt the Constitutional meaning of religious freedom even more than it already has.

Many of these operatives you’ll recognize: Alliance Defending Freedom, Citizens United, American Family Association, Mike Pence, Stephen Miller, Mark Meadows, Betsy DeVos, Ben Carson, Newt Gingrich, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio, Roy Moore, Jeff Sessions and Bill Barr

Together, they’re a Who’s Who known for their attacks on a wide range of critical issues—including LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, racial justice, voting rights, public education, and fair elections. They’re dead set on using legislation and the courts to create a country where we all live under their extremist ideas and laws.

All told, the annual budgets of these groups exceed $1 billion. Well-known conservative backers like the Kochs, Bradleys, and DeVoses are among the funders for some of these groups.

We need your support to fight them with everything we have. Please help with a donation right now: [link removed]

We’re on very dangerous ground if the Supreme Court is considering overturning decades of established law that prevents government employees from pressuring students to pray in public schools. It would be a radical departure from the accepted constitutional standard supported by both liberal and conservative Justices for more than half a century.

We face an uphill battle at the Supreme Court. That’s why AU must expose the shadow network’s agenda and the false narrative they’re building around this case.

You have the power to make a direct impact by contributing to AU’s efforts today. Thank you for being in this fight with us, when it counts most. Together we will uphold a core principle of our democracy: [link removed]
