During this busy legislative session, our members have been hard at work – fighting for the kind of bold progressive change Washington needs. From protecting our communities from gun violence to defending reproductive rights and growing our economy, our Senators are building the kind of future that we can all believe in.

Now here’s a quick overview of what we’ve been up to during this legislative session:

Protecting our communities from gun violence. The Washington State Senate passed SB 5078, Senator Liias’ bill to ban the sale of high-capacity magazines, which will save lives and make our communities safer. This is a critical step forward in fighting the gun violence epidemic and making sure no family has to experience the pain of gun violence.

Defending reproductive rights. Republicans nationwide are passing legislation to severely restrict access to abortion – and the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade at the end of this term. But here in Washington, we know we need to strengthen reproductive rights. That’s why the Senate passed the Affirm Washington Abortion Access Act, which will codify the right to provide abortion care into law.

Supporting small businesses and growing our economy. The Senate also passed SB 5980 to provide tax relief to small businesses and make bold investments in rural communities, solar energy, and affordable housing. We’re working to ensure a strong economic recovery and create a state where all Washingtonians can thrive.

Investing in our transportation infrastructure. Our caucus introduced the Move Ahead WA package, a landmark, 16-year investment in our state’s transportation sector. This legislation will help preserve our infrastructure, reduce carbon emissions, and create affordable options for everyone to get around. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on our progress in these final days of session – stay tuned for more information!
