Fellow Democrats,

I couldn’t be more proud of what Democrats accomplished this month! We expanded our progressive movement into areas that have long been held by Republicans and came out on top in a number of tough re-election races. 

Out of all the incredible wins, I’m most excited about the results in my own backyard. In Somerset County, where I serve as Somerset County Democratic Chair, Democrats knocked this election out of the ballpark! Last year, we picked up two Freeholder seats - a big step towards taking control of the Freeholder Board.

The board has been controlled by Republicans since the 1960’s. But, this year we kept the momentum rolling and elected Melonie Marano, who flipped control of the Freeholder Board to Democrats! And in another significant win, Democrat Darrin Russo won the race for County Sheriff in a landslide! These achievements prove that our party is stronger than ever. 

These incredible results in Somerset County and throughout our state simply would not have been possible without the investments made in our county party thanks to the leadership of our Chairman, John Currie, and our Governor, Phil Murphy. Gov. Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy were a constant presence at our headquarters firing up our volunteers before canvassing shifts, and the Governor’s progressive message was truly inspirational.

Hundreds of thousands of grassroots Democrats have joined us since 2016, and we’re growing even larger by the day. Thanks to the hard work of Somerset Democrats and the State Party, we’ve transformed this momentum into some of the most remarkable wins of 2019. 

Going into 2020, we will have an energized, grassroots base that’s stronger than ever. Together, we will take on the Trump Presidency to restore fairness and level the playing field for New Jersey and for our country.
