Mother pigs are crammed into small, filthy gestation crates. Constricted by metal bars on all sides, they can't lie down comfortably or even turn around for nearly their entire lives. Male piglets are often forced to undergo painful procedures, like having their sensitive tails cut off without painkillers, to compensate for aggressive behaviors caused by overcrowding.
The treatment of pigs on factory farms is unconscionable. We need a food system that rewards humane conditions for animals.
It’s not enough to simply advocate for improved regulations on factory farms. To create a better food system and more humane conditions for farmed animals, we must dismantle the entrenched political power that corporate agriculture has amassed.
We’re fighting in support of a food system that is healthy, sustainable and equitable – one that builds rural communities, values workers and respects consumers. But it’s going to take building pressure of all kinds to ban factory farms and transition existing ones to sustainable, diversified farms. We can’t do it without your support.
Small and medium-sized independent farms are able to feed people, but that won’t remain the case if mega-corporations are allowed to keep driving them out of existence. That’s where we come in!
