Dear People For supporter,
I wanted to thank you again for your financial support, your activism, and
for everything you do to support the mission of People For the American
Way; you’re truly the engine that powers this movement, and all of us here
just could not be more grateful to have you standing with us in this
fight.
It’s been a busy past few weeks here at People For, so I wanted to fill
you in on some of the amazing work that you have helped us accomplish.
* If you missed our original video celebrating the nomination of Judge
Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court (narrated by our very own
Reverend Leslie Watson Wilson, who leads People For’s African American
Religious Affairs programs), you can find that [ [link removed] ]here on our campaign
page – and stay tuned, as there’s lots more to come from our video
storytelling lab throughout this fight!
* To get March off to a good start and discuss the exciting nomination
of Judge Jackson, we featured the incomparable Elie Mystal (justice
correspondent for The Nation, and author of the new book Allow Me to
Retort: A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution) for our latest
supporter briefing on February 28 – and the discussion was on fire. If
you weren’t able to attend, you can [ [link removed] ]watch the recording here.
* Following up that briefing, our Digital Team – in collaboration with a
diverse group of coalition partners – organized and led a training
last Tuesday for activists to support Judge Jackson’s nomination. You
can view the recording of the training [ [link removed] ]here, or, for help writing
letters to the editor, spreading the word on social media, or
contacting senators, check out our [ [link removed] ]new activist toolkit here.
* Earlier this month I wrote an op-ed piece for the Chronicle of
Philanthropy entitled “Right-Wing Lies Against Supreme Court Nominee
Must Be Met With Strong Philanthropic Response” – you can read that
[ [link removed] ]here (free registration required). People For’s Senior Legislative
Counsel Paul Gordon was also [ [link removed] ]published in The Hill pointing out the
ways in which, despite facing a 6-3 conservative majority, Judge
Jackson will still be able to re-shape the Supreme Court.
* While the confirmation of Judge Jackson remains a major priority for
us as an organization right now, the fight for voting rights, the
struggle for democracy against authoritarianism, and the need to
reimagine public safety are still just as pressing as ever. I spoke to
these topics in an op-ed responding to the President’s State of the
Union address that I hope you’ll enjoy, titled “[ [link removed] ]State of the Union:
Democracy Needs Defenders” ... and more recently on March 11, about
the long moral arc that traces from Selma, Alabama to our work today
in “[ [link removed] ]From Selma to the Supreme Court, We Are Still Making History.”
* We also co-sponsored a leg of the six-day 57th anniversary march from
Selma to Montgomery, and People For Executive Director Svante Myrick
spoke about the moment we are in as a movement, and our plans at
People For moving forward – [ [link removed] ]read more here.
Thanks for reading – and for your support of People For! And, stand by for
information about our next online supporter briefing, including more ways
you can get involved in the fight to confirm Judge Jackson ... to follow
the Senate confirmation hearings next week.
Sincerely,
Ben Jealous, President

. But know that if you leave, it will be harder for you to stay involved with People For the American Way and continue our
crucial work. PFAW is able to win policy battles and elections, and
counter the Right's extremism and hate, because of dedicated
activists like you, and we're always eager to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for your support.
