Friend –
My heart goes out to the Ukrainian people.
The actions of Vladimir Putin and his military forces in Ukraine are cruel, inhumane, and in clear violation of international law.
According to the United Nations, more than 2.8 million people have now fled Ukraine because of the Russian invasion. Many have walked for days to neighboring countries — bringing only what they could carry — while braving Russian shelling of humanitarian corridors
and the winter cold.
Russian forces have even bombed a children's hospital and maternity ward.
Millions still in Ukraine lack food and electricity. There is a desperate search for medicines, like insulin. Ukrainians are melting snow for water, cutting down trees to burn for heat, and sheltering in subways and bunkers from continued Russian shelling.
While we've witnessed the horrors Russia is inflicting, we have also seen the vast majority of the world stand with the Ukrainian people with love and compassion.
We've seen photos of families leaving strollers at train stations for mothers and children fleeing their war-torn country. We've seen world-renowned chefs go to the Poland-Ukraine border to cook meals for refugees. And in Congress, we've even seen Republicans and Democrats come together to pass $13.6 billion in additional aid for Ukraine, which includes $6.5 billion for military assistance and $6.7 billion to help care for refugees.
Since the war in Ukraine began, I've been asked by a lot of folks what they too can do to help the Ukrainian people — so I've put together a list of organizations that are supporting Ukraine refugees by providing hot meals and clothing, meeting medical needs, finding shelter and housing, and more.
Will you join me by donating a few dollars to help those in need?
