Hi John,
I just got done speaking about housing at a community event. I am the only candidate in my race with a plan for ending homelessness and out-of-control rents in this country. Can you chip in $27 — or whatever you can afford — to help me win, so I can fight for housing in Congress?
Here are 5 shocking facts about housing in our country:
- 1 in 2 renters are rent burdened.
- 1 in 5 homeowners are cost burdened.
-
Median rent across the country has risen 19% in the past year.
- 600,000 people are homeless. 110,000 of them are children.
- There are 28 empty homes for every homeless person in this country. 19 of them are empty year round.
We have the money to end homelessness and rising home prices. It means investing public money into housing with policies like reinvesting in public housing, enacting vacancy and luxury taxes, and creating jobs by funding green construction projects.
Instead, our Congress is captured by big real estate interests that want to keep the status quo: wildly rising rents and prices, mass homelessness, and veterans sleeping on the streets.
If our profit-driven housing system were effective at actually housing people, no one would be homeless.
We need to change the way housing is done in this country, because housing is a human right. Please donate now to help me win, so I can fight for Housing for All in Congress.
