Hi Friend — Nancy here, checking in from Poland-Ukraine border, where I've joined the IRC Emergency Response team as we set up to assist people fleeing conflict in Ukraine.
I wanted to send you another quick note following up about what I'm seeing on the ground here. Attached below are some pictures below for your reference.
I'll be honest with you, Friend, the situation is grim. More than 2.8 million people have fled Ukraine, including 1.7 million who have crossed the border into Poland.
Most of the refugees arriving here are women and children. Many of them have no friends or family members in the country and nowhere to go from here, which puts them at risk of abuse and exploitation.
Our teams are working around the clock to deliver critical aid and information services to families in both Ukraine and Poland. If you can, please rush an emergency donation to help us meet this moment of unprecedented need: [link removed]
Friend, here's my latest report on IRC's response efforts in this situation:
-We've partnered with local organizations in Ukraine and Poland to provide displaced families with the support they need.
-In Ukraine, we are supporting evacuation efforts and providing emergency assistance — like groceries, blankets, warm clothes and more — to families who have been forced to flee their homes.
-Here in Poland, we are supporting the provision of medical care, translation help, legal assistance and other important protection services to those who have made their way across the border.
Here is my promise to you, Friend: We will be here for as long as we are needed, providing families with whatever they need to survive, recover and rebuild their lives.
I will continue to keep you updated on the situation here on the ground — I've attached some more pictures that I took during my most recent visit to the border as well.
Thank you for being on our team at this critical time. Your generosity is inspiring our team on the ground and to the families we're supporting.
Until next time,
— Nancy, IRC
P.S. If you haven't made a donation yet, it's not too late. Displaced families will need continued care in the week and months to come. Please, rush your first donation now to help families in crisis, here in Europe and around the world: [link removed]
