Did you see the news, John?
Republicans in Congress aren’t the only ones who want to raise your taxes and cut taxes for the ultra-wealthy. You read that right: Paul LePage is trying to pass tax breaks for the wealthy at the expense of working Mainers.
While Gov. Mills has proposed sending $750 checks to nearly one million people thanks to our current budget surplus, LePage is instead proposing to shift taxes from the ultra-wealthy to the rest of us.
We saw what happened last time LePage was in office and we can’t let it happen again, John.
Will you join us in the fight to defend Maine and keep Paul LePage out of office for a second time? Anything you can spare is going to be crucial to our state-wide organizing efforts to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. [link removed]
In case you don’t remember, last time Paul LePage had his way, he viciously slashed public programs that Mainers relied on, cut pensions, and paid for it all by shifting the burden on to workers. His tax policies have always catered to one group: Maine’s wealthiest.
Now, according to economic research from the Maine Center for Economic Policy , LePage’s plan to eliminate the individual income tax would have catastrophic effects for our schools, health care system, workers, and social safety net. While the bottom 80% of Mainers would see an effective tax increase, the top 1% would receive an average tax cut of $22,665.
Let’s be clear: LePage’s tax plan is downright dangerous. But I know that if we stand together, we can defeat Paul LePage in November and continue to fight for working families and communities from Portland to Presque Isle.
Are you in?
We can’t let Paul LePage get away with rewriting the tax code to cater to the wealthy. Chip in $5, $10, $20.22, $50, $100 or whatever you can now to help us stop Paul LePage and his disastrous tax plan. [link removed]
