On Read Across America Day, more than NINE MILLION people engaged with us on social media to uplift #ReadWithLove, our new campaign to encourage more reading of all kinds of books about all kinds of people, histories, and topics.

After all, schools and libraries are places where kids can explore their identities, from the activities they participate in to the clothes they wear, from the names they use to the books they read--and librarians are some of the best allies around!

Take action today: Help everyone #ReadWithLove by shopping our Amazon or Bookshop wish lists. Purchase your favorites from PFLAG National's #ReadWithLove bookshelves and, when your books arrive, deliver them to your local library, school, or community book collection. Let's make these wonderful books accessible for all who want them.

Three Steps to Helping Start Someone’s Ally Journey

Last Friday, March 11th, we celebrated the 49th anniversary of PFLAG's first meeting, led by our found Jeanne Manford, her husband Jules, and their son Morty. Today, you can honor that anniversary by helping someone in your life start their own ally journey. Encourage the people in your life to #LeadLikeJeanne with these helpful tools and resources

1. Learn: Visit straightforequality.org/allyspectrum to learn more about the ally spectrum and how allies and potential allies can take their next steps. Share guide to being a straight ally, guide to being a trans ally, and more resources with new allies to help them learn more about LGBTQ+ people and issues.
2. Watch: Revisit some PFLAG Academy Online sessions made specifically for allies, including So You Think You Can Ally? and What Would You Do? Tips and Tools for PFLAGers and Allies in Tough Situations to help create conversations about LGBTQ+ equality, manage moments of conflict, and more. Be sure to share our Something To Talk About Live! series with potential new allies as well.
3. Share: Share PFLAG and Straight for Equality content on social media. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and urge new allies in your life to do the same.

Tell Your Senators: We're all in on the Equality Act

This Thursday, March 17th, marks one year since the historic Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on The Equality Act. On that day, PFLAG Board member Edith Guffey, a national faith leader and the parent of a trans nonbinary child, was one of three witnesses who spoke in favor of this much-needed federal nondiscrimination legislation. 

Please contact your Senators and tell them that we’re still fighting for Senate passage and ask them to vote in favor of this critical piece of legislation. Even if your Senators have committed to vote yes, call them, email them, and tweet them your thanks; they need to know that the majority of people in this country support equality for everyone, everywhere, at all times. 

Let’s work together to get the Equality Act across the finish line.

Something to Talk About...Live!

Catholic, Irish, LGBTQ+ – and Proud of All Three!

While Ireland is now one the most progressive countries in Europe when it comes to LGBTQ+ inclusion, that has not always been the case. And for queer Irish Americans, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day can be complicated, especially in places where LGBTQ+ organizations are still prohibited from participating in the day’s festivities.

Join us this Thursday, March 17th at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something To Talk About Live, where we will discuss  Kayla Simas's article in SILive.com, “Barred from the Staten Island parade LGBTQ community celebrates Irish heritage at PRIDE Center,” with human rights activist and filmmaker Brendan Fay.
