** The resounding voice of New Orleanians

spoke up on Saturday night, when we came together and elected a Democrat to a second term for the first time in 44 years.

Conventional wisdom said we could never increase turnout by anywhere close to 30% in New Orleans. You know what? We did it. Not only did turnout increase by nearly 30%, but 90% of New Orleanians voted for Governor John Bel Edwards.

When we vote, we win.

Everywhere you looked, organizations and individuals expressed support in the most meaningful and creative ways. Let's give thanks to everyone who rallied, texted, phone banked, waved signs, and knocked doors. Let's also give praise to Black voters, who truly showed up in force across Louisiana.

Thank you to all of our Action New Orleans team who knocked 70,000 doors, sent 350,000 texts, and made 50,000 calls. It was inspiring to see so many young people wade into the civic arena to help Gov. Edwards and Mayor LaToya Cantrell's ballot of YES. Thanks to you, we will have more than a half billion dollars to spend on infrastructure improvements and affordable housing. Further, hundreds of thousands of New Orleanians will have an opportunity to resolve discrimination claims more easily through the Human Rights Commission. These are important breakthroughs for our city.

Congratulations to Mayor Cantrell's endorsed candidates: State Representatives-elect Aimee Adatto Freeman, Candace Newell, and Matthew Willard. And as the first candidate to sign Mayor Cantrell's Fair Share Pledge, a special congratulations to State Representative-elect Mandie Landry. Our New Orleans legislative delegation will continue to fight for the people who live and work in our city.

Today we still have a Governor who supports New Orleans and that is a beautiful thing. He said on Friday night at Turnup Turnout in Fulton Alley, "I love this city. I love this state. We've made a lot of progress over the past four years and we're going to make a hell of a lot more in the next four years."

Yes, we will. Because when we vote, we win. So stay tuned.
