It’s a great feeling — and it’s time we make it permanent.

Happy Daylight Saving Time!

Over the weekend, we sprung forward and now we all get to enjoy an extra hour of sunshine this evening. The long winter is almost over, and Spring is just around the corner.

It’s time to go from polar to solar — and make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

No more changing clocks. No more lost sleep or disrupted schedules. Let’s pass a bill and make it the law — let’s make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

Add your name if you agree: It’s time to make Daylight Saving Time permanent.

I’m proud that it was my law in 2005 that increased the portion of the year that is subject to Daylight Saving Time, providing longer hours of daylight. Now, we need to make that extra time with the sun permanent, and I was proud to co-sponsor the Sunshine Protection Act in the Senate last year.

Studies have shown Daylight Saving Time is good for our physical health, our mental health, public safety, our economy, and our planet. We’re happier and healthier all while reducing emissions, using less energy, and saving money on electricity at the same time. To my mind, it’s a win-win.

Now let’s be clear: Changes like this on their own are not nearly at the scale and magnitude we need to confront the climate crisis. That’s why we need a Green New Deal, and I need your support to continue that fight each and every day.

But with this issue fresh in your mind as we spring forward this week — if you’re ready to make the benefits of Daylight Saving Time you’re feeling today permanent, I hope you’ll add your name to my petition today:

Thanks for making your voice heard.

All my best,

Ed Markey
