Learn Cultural Competency with
Alfredo Cerrato at Coalitions Rising
Cultural competence is a lifelong process that is at the core of prevention work. This session will bring participants on a journey that will enable them to self-reflect and examine the dynamics of culture and worldview for personal and coalition work benefits. It will inspire, via newfound strategies and perspectives, a way to engage in relationships through a lens of cultural humility. It will also elevate your engagement and consensus effectiveness within diverse coalition constituencies to a new level.

Participants will:
  • Explore examples of cultural competence and provide perspective on how history can be applied to preventative measures and policy for the future mission and vision of the organization.
  • Explain how personal history and self-assessment can strengthen community coalitions while creating cultural competence capacity in the process.
  • Learn to more effectively help solve complex challenges in current coalition work.

Exhibitor Space Available
Everyone has a role in prevention, and exhibitors make possible the vital work we do at Prevention Action Alliance by providing resources and tools for all. Together, we help communities, schools, prevention workers, teens, and parents by giving them the strategies and resources they need to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco, opioids, or other drugs by young people. We lead healthy communities in the prevention of substance misuse and the promotion of mental health wellness.

By exhibiting at or sponsoring a Prevention Action Alliance event you show those you serve that you care about the same issues they do. It’s an easy way to demonstrate your commitment to the community, connect with people, and play your role in prevention.
#PUSH4Prevention Stipend
Deadline Extended
The #PUSH4Prevention Stipend, coordinated by Prevention Action Alliance, is made possible with funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The new deadline to apply is November 22, 2019 by 11:59 p.m. EST. This funding provides recipients an opportunity to enhance or implement environmental strategies in their communities.

Up to four grants of no more than $2,500 will be awarded to coalitions, with an additional four grants available specifically to colleges. Please share this information with any higher education partners your coalition may have. These grants are intended to increase the number and quality of environmental strategies used in your community and to foster innovative approaches for promoting a prevention message. The focus of the stipend is to address substance misuse.
