Tomorrow marks an important anniversary for our voting rights John.
On March 15, 1965, President Johnson addressed the joint session of Congress and urged its members to pass the Voting Rights Act.
This was only 8 days after the unprovoked assault on voting rights activists, now known as Bloody Sunday, on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.
Months later, the Voting Rights Act was finally signed into law on August 6, 1965.
This bill has become fundamental in preventing racial discrimination in voting, including the banning of literacy tests and ensuring there are no barriers to exercising our right to vote. This is why Congress has expanded the act five times to increase its protections, and why I voted, twice, to pass voting rights legislation in the House this past year.
We are now facing a myriad of restrictive and discriminatory voting laws being passed across the country. Congress needs to break through the partisan deadlock and pass meaningful protections for our communities. Will you join me by pitching in to support this fight? >> [link removed]

Primaries have already started across the country. Over the last few weeks we have seen the devastating effects of voter suppression play out in real time. We saw Texas voters being rejected from voting by mail due to issues with voter ID, and earlier this year the Arizona legislature passed legislation that could openly question the results of our elections.
The time for solutions is truly now, and we cannot wait to pass voting rights protections. But we have to show all in Congress that a movement stands behind this fight. Will you stand with me and chip in what you can? >> [link removed]
