In Colorado, water is life. That’s why it’s so critical that we manage our water the right way. One of the most important responsibilities I have as Colorado Attorney General is to protect Colorado’s water and the communities that depend on water for their local economies and livelihoods.
A dangerous scheme, pushed by a company called Renewable Water Resources, would take a significant amount of water from the San Luis Valley and divert it to Douglas County. If carried out, this proposal would devastate the San Luis Valley, its farms, its communities, and its families.
The Valley’s underground aquifers are already depleted. Taking away more water would inflict serious harm to Valley farming communities. That’s why the people of the San Luis Valley are so opposed to this plan. That’s why I am too. So is State Senator Cleave Simpson. Together, we laid out why this plan is flat out wrong in this op-ed. And in this video, I explain why this scheme poses such a risk to Colorado and why I am fighting against it.

I am committed to serving all Colorado communities, showing up to listen to them and fighting for them. Thank you for helping me do just that. Phil |
