Reuters: “U.S. Supreme Court rebuffs Republicans in electoral map disputes”

This is big, John. A few days ago, the Supreme Court refused to grant emergency relief to Republicans in North Carolina and Pennsylvania who were making a last-ditch effort to block fair maps approved by their state Supreme Courts.

This means the 2022 congressional elections in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, two of the most gerrymandered states in 2011, will be held on fair maps!

This is an enormous victory that deserves to be celebrated. Will you mark the occasion by sending $5 or whatever you can to support the NDRC’s work toward fair redistricting across the country?

A.G. Holder said it: Thanks in part to our work, Republicans are being held accountable for their arrogant attempts to illegitimately draw their way to political power.

“Republicans are making it quite clear that they will do whatever it takes – even if it means eroding our federalist system as we know it – to circumvent the will of the people so they can lock in their own power. This time they were stopped, but their cravenness has been put on display, and we will not rest on our heels in the fight to protect our democracy.”

This time they were stopped, John. We don’t know what will happen next time. Just weeks ago, the Supreme Court allowed the 2022 congressional elections in Alabama to proceed under a manipulated map. So we MUST continue to be vigilant and use every avenue available to fight Republican gerrymandering.
