I am running because I am genuinely terrified by the world we are leaving our children: a people divided, a broken healthcare system putting families into bankruptcy, a global environmental catastrophe left unaddressed, and an economy that has devastated the American Dream for our middle class; these are all symptoms of a sick democracy.
This was true prior to COVID-19, and now it is more important and apparent than ever that we must pass a single payer Medicare for All system, to ensure that every American has access to high quality “no point of use” cost care. We can comprehensively, nationally, internationally, and cohesively prepare for and respond to global pandemics in the future. In order to mitigate pandemics, threat to health, our economy, and way of life ~ we need a competent and science driven government not the lies and rhetoric of a cowardly corrupt corporate political actor.
We must pass a comprehensive Green Energy Infrastructure plan: In order to rapidly transition our energy production, reinvest in rural America, and create thousands of good paying sustainable jobs right here in Colorado, we are getting Americans back to work. We must invest in renewable energy sources, to save our environment and the American middle class. The biggest threat to our way of life is climate change. Not only did it contribute to the devastating Colorado wildfires, but it significantly lengthened the season for these fires, prolonging their damaging effects. Investing in renewable energy will not only provide jobs for Coloradans in the energy sector, but safeguards our houses, farms, and forests from unnecessary damage.
With nearly 30,000 Democratic and left leaning independent voters sitting out the 2020 election, turnout will be key to our victory, but most importantly, more than half of the 2020 unaffiliated voters in our district are coded as persuadable according to their voter file. Winning independent support will mean an aggressive, non-stop campaign that refuses to let Buck get away with his negligent “NO” votes on funding for COVID-19 response or his misleading statements pertaining to the dangers of the COVID-19 global pandemic and climate change.
I plan to do so, by running a campaign centered around localized conversations about how we can work at the federal level to solve both everyday problems (like the skyrocketing cost of our healthcare, energy, groceries, rent, and gas), as well as how federal dollars can be used to rebuild our local economies.
Defeating Ken Buck is a monumental task, we cannot afford to waste time and assets in a costly primary. I am a retired Marine Corps Officer and Purple Heart recipient. My record of service and sacrifice for our Nation will help unite the district around the common values we hold dear as Americans.
