Hey John,
Thanksgiving is coming up which means 46 million turkeys will be killed! Join hundreds of activists on Saturday, November 23rd to March for the 46 Million #Right to Rescue and elevate the stories of turkeys who are killed as well as ask the city of Berkeley to support the right to rescue animals! DxE activists have investigated some of the most renowned "humane" turkey farms in the country and uncovered extreme crowding, filth, and suffering. In the course of those investigations, activists also rescued turkeys, and they now face felony charges. But rescuing animals is not a crime, and killing millions of animals for one holiday is not okay! Join us at Crescent Lawn UC Berkeley at 1:00 pm in this peaceful march as we ask for the right to rescue and we say #NoThanks to violence.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Tuesday, November 19th, 7:00pm: Work Party - March for the 46 Million - Come hangout and help us prepare for the March for the 46 Million! You will get a sneak peak at part of the action (a first in DxE history!!)
- Thursday, November 21st, 5:00pm: Support the Right to Rescue Resolution in San Francisco - The San Francisco Commission of Animal Control and Welfare will be voting on a resolution to support the six activists facing felony charges in Sonoma County. If it passes, it would go to the full board of supervisors for a vote. Passing this resolution could help us establish the right to rescue animals! We want to show that people care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting and speaking in support, and we need YOU there! Meet at 1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Pl, San Francisco, CA 94102, room 408 and wear a blue DxE shirt.
- Saturday, November 23rd, 11:00am: Meetup: Should we Celebrate Thanksgiving at all? - Thanksgiving is founded on the colonial invasion and genocide of indigenous people living on the land we know as the Americas and today those people still face injustice and oppression. On top of that, we kill 46 million turkeys for the holiday each year. What’s to celebrate? Some would say that regardless of its history and ongoing issues, we should still enjoy having a day to unite with friends and family, but others see value in disavowing the day. Come discuss together!
- Sunday, November 24th, 3:00pm: Frontline Surveillance: Team Lead Training - DxE’s investigations and mass actions have uncovered criminal animal cruelty happening at farms all around us. The industry is scared and we are facing harsher repression than ever before. Now is the time we need YOU to go to the frontlines and continue documenting and help expose Animal Agriculture. Frontline Surveillance teams are small teams who go into the field and document from public property. Come to this training to learn how to lead a team into the field. Topics of the training will include how to pick a target, what kind of animal cruelty violates California state law, how to build a team, how to de-escalate conflict, and more.
