Dear neighbor:
Like you, I have been watching in horror as innocent Ukrainians continue to suffer because of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified attack on their sovereign nation. These are dark days for Eastern Europe and the world.
I am honored to stand with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress in support of the Ukrainian people. Congress acted this week to support Ukraine and further isolate Russia from the global economy. On Wednesday, we voted to pass a bill that will weaken Russia by banning the import of Russian oil and energy products into the U.S., take steps to review Russia’s access to the World Trade Organization, and strengthen the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act so the U.S. can impose further sanctions on Russia. To further support the Ukrainian people, the House passed a critical government funding package this week that included $13.6 billion in aid to Ukraine for humanitarian, defense, and economic assistance.
In addition to providing foreign aid, the broader government funding legislation, which is expected to become law soon, will improve lives across the U.S. and here at home in Los Angeles County. The package includes nearly $11 million for projects I advocated for in California’s 33rd District to address homelessness, provide affordable housing, benefit health care and community centers, and more. I am pleased all 10 of the projects I fought for were included in the legislation.
As a nation, we’ve made extraordinary progress over the last year, as evidenced by our historic economic recovery and getting the COVID-19 virus under control. That’s due, in large part, to the leadership of the Biden Administration and the American Rescue Plan, which was signed into law one year ago. This transformative legislation, opposed by every single Republican in Congress, has made a difference in the lives of millions of Americans by expanding access to COVID-19 testing and vaccines, helping businesses keep their doors open, and getting children safely back into schools. While more work remains to reduce prices and lower costs on American families, we have made tremendous progress.

Testing: During his State of the Union address, President Biden announced that households can order another round of COVID tests shipped straight to their home.
